Amazed
I'm sitting her watching my 14 month old daughter fight an early morning nap and I'm just amazed at the miracle of life. Perhaps it's kismet that today is Ash Wednesday which usually brings a time of reflection for me. I look at Kayla and think how blessed I am that she is here. I've now shared our story with you but what I can't yet share are the thoughts going through my head those first few days when she was in the NICU. Whether it was paranoia or what I don't know, but I couldn't help but think dark thoughts -- every time I walked in to the NICU, I expected the worst and was relieved when I saw my little bundle getting a little bit bigger and bigger every day.
Now, Kayla is walking and babbling all day long. She's hitting all her milestones (even if a bit late) and I can't reconcile the tiny 3.7 lb preemie to the 20-lb chunky monkey in front of me. Every day that she grows and my love grows with her. I never imagined that my heart could grow so much and burst with pride at this amazing little person.
I'll end this sappy post with a picture form this afternoon -- enjoying her lunch!

REVIEW: Comforts for Baby Products
As a one-income family, we're always looking for ways to save money. I've managed to save some money through the use of coupons but having a baby means a lot of extra expenses. For us, diapers where the biggest one. BzzAgent came through with a new campaign that I was both excited and a bit nervous about. The campaign was for Comforts for Baby, the Kroger family brand of products for babies and toddlers.

My kit arrived and it contained a box of wipes, a couple of sippy cups and a coupon for a free box of diapers (which I redeemed and that's the box you see in the photo.) I was surprised to see the sippy cups as I had only expected to try out the wipes and diapers but it's not like I don't already own a slew of sippy cups!
Now that I've had some time to use everything, I feel I can give my honest opinion on them, so here goes:
WIPES:
The wipes are probably my favorite item out of the bunch. While the wipes seem a bit thinner than my Huggies and Pampers wipes, they are still thick enough to get the job done and are soft enough that I feel comfortable using them to wipe Kayla's face. I don't see an increase in the amount of wipes I have to use. There are no harsh chemicals or alcohol on the wipes. The box contains 72 wipes which is just a bit more than the normal container of the national brands. The quality of the wipes makes them a good value for your dollar.
SIPPY CUPS:
Kayla has had a love/hate relationship with all sippy cups. She either loved them or hated them right away - there was no in-between with this girl. In this respect, she's very much like her mother. As she gets older, it's becoming easier and easier for her to use different sippys and she will at least attempt to use them. I feel like she had a lukewarm reaction to the Comforts sippy cups but that's just my daughter. She's only found one brand that she consistently prefers over all others. It fairly easy for her to drink her water out of them and they don't leak. The cup is of good quality. I don't remember what the price on these runs but I remember it being comparable to other sippys.
DIAPERS:
At long last we arrive at the diapers! Like I mentioned above, I was hesitant to use these because I was scared of Kayla's reaction to them. So far, so good! She's been wearing them consistently for almost a month now (I took the picture long after I'd started using the diapers) and not a single trace of diaper rash. This was a huge sigh of relief for me.
Quality wise, the diapers perform well. The diapers are bit thinner than what I'm used to and I was nervous about leakage but I've been pleasantly surprised. They hold in everything and haven't had any leaks (even on mornings when she sleeps longer than normal and her diaper is heavier.)
Design wise, I think there are some flaws. While I love the little bee on each diaper, I am not a fan of the adhesive. It is flimsy and hard to open. I've had to throw out a few diapers because of this. I also don't like the fit. I'm not sure if this is just a batch issue that affected this particular set of diapers or if all Comforts diapers have this issue but I've noticed that several diapers fit Kayla a bit tight. I readjust them and they fit a bit better, but still feel tight whereas other times they fit just right. It's weird that the same batch produces such different results but I've noticed it on more than one occasion and so has my husband. Still, I think for a family on a budget, these diapers perform well and are great value for your money.

It seems these posts come up faster and faster each month. Seriously, where does the time go? I feel like I just had a newborn and now here I sit writing my toddler!
At 14 months, you are:
- Wearing 12-18 month clothes
- Taking a few steps here and there but not fully walking yet
- We've successfully made the switch to organic whole milk and you're getting better at feeding yourself solids
- You're off bottles and drinking all your drinks from a sippy cup (thank goodness!)
- Daddy has become your favorite word -- you literally say it ALL DAY LONG
- You LOVE shaking your booty to anything! It's the cutest thing I've ever seen.
- You are such a happy baby and very friendly - love meeting new people and getting attention.
All my love,
Mommy
